One of the best compliments clients often say about Steve Travers is that “he starts out as your agent and ends up your friend.” Not to be overlooked, his colleagues at other brokerages frequently describe him as a “conscientious professional” with whom they genuinely like to work.
Given such a talent for building long-term relationships, it should come as no surprise that in his very first year selling real estate, Steve joined “The 100% Club” for being among the top 1% of all real estate agents in the country – an honor he has achieved every year since. When Steve says he’s going to do something, there’s no need to follow up. He will work around the clock to sell a client’s house, always keeping them informed in the process.
Steve’s positive attitude is infectious, something he attributes to his patient and loving parents who worked tirelessly to make a happy home for him and his six siblings. His mom, also a real estate agent, gave him a peek at his future, showing how gratifying it was to find a client their dream home. Before starting his career, he earned his degree in Business and Finance from the University of Massachusetts.
Looking back on what it was like to be 21 and ready to conquer the world, he would give himself this piece of advice: “Nobody cares how much you know until they know how much you care. Your reputation is only as good as your last transaction, so you better make sure you treat everyone as you would like to be treated.” Most importantly, something he tells young associates today is “work to live, don't live to work.”
Make no mistake, clients have to be happy but over the long-haul family comes first. In Steve’s case, that means his wife of 39 years, Susan, their three children and their two grandchildren. Also witness his neighborhood and community service, which includes helping with the Riviera Circle Lake Club (where he lives), as well as serving on the boards for the Summerfest Festival, the Partner in Education Fund, and the Y2 Ski Club. Steve also volunteers as a guide for the Winter Park Ski Meisters.
Ten years ago, Steve joined Kentwood because of its dedicated, innovative and talented agents, as well as the exceptional marketing and relocation assistance they receive. Having previously worked at RE/MAX Professionals for 19 years, and before that appraising residential real estate for six, it’s safe to say he has quite a frame of reference for what makes Kentwood so exceptional.
Steve stresses the importance of “neighborhood” to buyers. A home is much more than a roof and four walls. The right schools, parks, shopping, places of worship, recreation and activities can be more challenging to find than the house itself. His desire to do the best possible job for his clients is sincere, giving every listing and sale his utmost care. He’s passionate about living and raising a family in Colorado, citing how its four seasons allow him to enjoy snow and water skiing, boating, paddle boarding, kayaking, hiking, bicycling and softball. People want “action” from their real estate agents, and that’s just what they get. Steve leads by example, never expecting any more from an associate than he’s already giving. He is the experienced and enthusiastic advocate you want on your side when you’re buying or selling a home, and a perfect example of the excellence to be found at Kentwood.
In addition to being a top producing agent, Steve is a Certified Residential Specialist (CRS), a Five Star Professional (2009-2019), and has received the DMAR Roundtable Award annually since 2010.
